Russia and Ukraine in bun fight over fairy tales

Russia has published a controversial national fairy tale map laying claim to some of the most popular folk tales in the Russian-speaking world.The map displays three dozen fairy tale characters which, it maintains, have Russian roots.

The idea that there's an simple way to divide Russia from Ukraine is pretty stupid... I love the linguistic argument they rely on to "prove" that Kolobok is either Ukrainian or Russian. As though Russian and Ukrainian are historically distinct, autonomous, mutually-incomprehensible  languages before, say, the 17th century. Lunacy. Petty, infantile lunacy. But pretty funny.

I'm waiting for Belarus to enter the fray...
