Russian Headgear: The Ushanka Hat

The Russian Ushanka hat is a piece of traditional head wear typically worn in the winter due to the freezing cold temperatures. The Ushanka derives from the russian word for ears "ushi" or уши, traditional/authentic ushankas are typically made up of expensive furs. This hat is sometimes also referred to as a trooper hat because it was introduced as part of the uniform during the Russian Civil war in 1918.
