School System in Russia

Education is compulsory between the ages of 6 and 15. By the age of six, children enter primary school. During the four years of primary school all subjects are taught by the same teacher. By the age of 10, kids enter senior school. After five mandatory years, it is obligatory to continue with school for another two years, which allows entrance into universities. The second option is to enter vocational or non-university institute. These schools offer some academic subject, but mainly training in technical fields. Students graduate from both schools around the age of 18. Russian school year is split into four terms with vacation in between. School starts September first and ends in the final week of May, with finals to be written in June. As we know, Russian grading is on a scale from 1-5, with 5 being the best grade.
