Although some Russians celebrate valentines day, many do not participate in the primarily US tradition. Instead, love and devotion is celebrated on March 8th, also known as International Women's Day. Flowers are traditionally given to loved ones. However, be aware! There are a few rules you will want to follow before trying to win the heart of your Russian crush. Firstly, you will want to give an odd number of flowers such as a bouquet of 5 or 7. Even numbered bouquets are traditionally reserved for cemeteries and funerals. Also, although the rose is still a sign of love, the Tulip is the go to flower if you really want to tug on the heartstrings.
