Winter Sports

The one upside to the cold, harsh winters of Russia are winter sports. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games were held in Sochi, Russia. Some examples of these sports are ice hockey, ice skating, skiing and snowboarding. Ice hockey is to Russia as football is to America. Below is a photo of the Russian team, Локомотив Яарославл. Another sport is ice skating, which is popular in the Olympic Games. Some famous Russian ice skaters are Evgeni Plushenko, Maxim Trankov and Tatiana Volosozhar. In the Sochi Olympics, Russian won Gold and Silver medals in figure skating pairs. Cross country skiing is a more relaxed version of skiing. It can even be used as a mode of transportation. Great places for downhill skiing and snowboarding are the Ural Mountains and the Caucuses.
