Russian Christmas

Christmas in Russia is celebrated on January 7, according to the Orthodox calendar. Although preceding Christmas, New Year’s Day, January 1^st, is the more important holiday. Russia also has a Santa Claus, called Ded Moroz, or know as Father Frost. Accompanied the Snow Maiden (Snegurochka), he brings gifts to children to lay under the New Year's tree.
