Второй год... Лингафонный кабинет, Глава 3... Неделя 2. (SECOND YEAR, Unit 3 Week 2)

ОК, ребята... за работу! To work, to work! Work, so Stalin says THANK YOU!

1) Напишите тест по новым словам (Take the quiz!)
2) Возьмите хендаут.... и... Давайте послушаем... если вам будет трудно, то мы вместе сможем поработать над ним. разговор стаксистом... A conversation with a taxi driver! Get a handout, and... Listen! And, if it proves difficult, we can work a bit on it together... You'll find the questions on your lab handout. Вот линк на запись... Link to the recording.
3) Садитесь за стол! Поработаем вместе! Come to the tables, find a tutor or me, and let's work a bit on verbs of motion... Take a look at this flowchart that you all know well... All we're adding today is the FUTURE and PAST perfective forms for these verbs, пойти-поехать (that's по- added more or less directly to the words unidirectional verbs ехать и идти--the conjugations are the same... пое́ду, пойду | пое́дешь, пойдёшь...).
4) The grammar quiz NEXT WEDNESDAY: The first part is based CLOSELY on Ex. 8 (ходить - ездить / идти - ехать Fill in the blank) that we're doing at the tables today. Know how to say that you are going somewhere on some form of transportation. Remember: пешком is ON FOOT, without any additional prepositions! Additionally, there are lexical/grammatical expressions having to do with location (рядом, далеко от, слево от...). You'll find those on the handout, and we'll practice them in class on Tuesday.
5) Here's my mind-map of verbs of motion... It's really just a set of binary decisions... Yes or no?
6) Finally, sign up for your oral performance in pairs here. И вот линк на запись стихов, которые вам надо выучить... (Link to a recording of the poem BICYCLE, which you'll need to memorize for the quiz.)

Elementary Russian | Сегодня в лингaфонном кабинете... | Unit 3 Week 2... Какие языки вы знаете?

In this unit, we're using a few important Power Points that explain the formation and use of the prepositional case, and another couple that describe the "single stem system" of verb conjugations. Here they are

You must sign up for your Oral Performance (in pairs!). Запишите в парах! Клкините здесь !

Что сегодня наготове... What's in store today...

1) >>>Take the vocabulary quiz!<<<
2) At a computer station, do the listening exercise below on числительные--it reviews numbers to the hundreds. You'll find the worksheet in your lab handout. Remember that Russians pay for things in рубли (the plural of рубель, roooble), and you'll hear various forms of the word like рубль, рубля, рублей. These are just different case forms--don't worry about them! Concentrate on catching the numbers.
3) Contemplate the forms of говорить, which conjugates JUST LIKE the other verbs we've studied, except the vowels change a bit. (BELOW!)

4) Look through the Power Putin on Prepositional. Don't you love Power Putins??

5) Come to the tables, we'll work through some exercises on the Prepositional.

The whole kit and caboodle shouldn't take more than 45 minutes. (Kit and caboodle in Russian is "wagon and cart, ваго́н и ма́ленькая теле́жка.")

Итак... 1) Listen and read along as the диктор reads numbers 1-50. Here is the recording.

Now do this exercise, jotting down the prices the handout. I only want you to do the first 13. Don't listen more than three times. Here are the questions (they're also on the handout).

When you're done with the числительные (numbers), consider the verb говори́ть, to speak. It is very similar to verbs like читать, знать, жить that we've already studied, the sole difference being the vowel  in the ending. Сравните!

In говорить and other verbs ending in -ить, the ending vowel is -и- where there's a -е- in verbs like читать that end in -ать. The они form is -ят instead of -ют.

Finally: We have a lot of grammar left! Look through this PowerPoint on the prepositional case. We've already encountered it: Я живу во Флориде. Иван живёт в Москве. Now, we'll learn how to change modifiers so they reflect the function and gender of the nouns. Read through the presentation a couple of times, and work with me or the tutor on the exercises.

Wheh. Finally. Да уж! You're telling me! In the final exercise на хендауте, take items from each column and make complete sentences... I go to work on the bus! Ура ура! Remember: Can you do it in the bathroom? Destinations are ACCUSATIVE. Modes of transportation always use на + PREPOSITIONAL.

  2. За компьютером... Listen to two разговоры (conversations) and answer questions that you find on the first page of the handout... Listen to each разговор three times! No more, no fewer! Jot down the answers on the хэндаут that you printed in #1. Разговор 2Разговор 3 (15 minutes)
  3. Прослушайте и прочитайте про себя Диалог 4. (Listen to & read to yourself Dialog 4.) The dialogue is on the handout, too! Where in the dialogue, for instance, do you learn how to praise someone's language ability?
  4. Work through the хэндаут on verbs that's in the document from #1 above. It's on verbs. Try to conjugate the verb изучать, then write out the answers to Oral Drills 1, 2, and 3.
So, right? Понятно? You have to listen to a couple разговоры and answer the questions. Then listen to a dialogue and identify the Russian phrases. And, finally, do the verb exercises. Turn this in at the start of class on THURSDAY.

Here's a beautiful, lighthearted song and video by the Russian group ДДТ....

Что такое осень - это небо,
Плачущее небо под ногами.

Second Year Russian @ Stetson... Сегодня в лингафонном кабинете! Unit 2 Week 3

Сначала... Напишите тест! First, take your easy quiz!

Now, sign up for your Устное выступление your ORAL PERFORMANCE here

On the back... На обороте.... Look!

Наденьте наушники и прослушайте передачу Радионяни!

Put on your headphones and listen! Радионяня now means "baby monitor" in Russian. But it used to be a radio program for kids...  Everyone "of a certain age" (my age!) knows these episodes. If you're over, say, thirty-five, you grew up with Радионяня at home. The song that starts every episode goes...

Мы рады вас приветствовать, товарищи ребята!Конечно, если дома вы, а не ушли куда-то.
We're happy to see greet you, comrade children!
If you're at home, of course, and haven't gone somewhere...

The rhyme of куда-то and ребята is an excellent rhyme!

Give the song a listen here.

Now listen to a segment: Давайте послушаем program

On the back of your quiz, jot down the answers (in Russian... or English if you have to) to the four questions. Клёво! It's great. Смешно... Very funny! Смешно, а серьёзно! Funny, but serious... as it always was and ever shall be in Russia.

This will take you about half an hour... Трудно! Я знаю!

When you're done... Come to the tables and ask us questions! Get some additional help on aspect and verb conjugations.

Work on homework that's due for the portfolio. Поговорим по-русски! Let's chat! But there's no additional written work...

Весёлые уроки! Cheerful lessons! Lessons in Happiness!

You can listen to more more episodes of Радионяня here.

Сегодня в лингафонном кабинете! Unit 2 Week 3 Elementary Russian

Day two, Week three, Unit 2. Listening and Этот vs. Это

Добрый день! Рад вас видеть! Good day! Nice to see you.

Russian voters recently went to the polls to elect the 450 members of the country’s lower house, the Duma. It was a crushing victory for the pro-Putin United Russia party, which might (paradoxically) end up being a bad thing for Putin. Go read an in-depth analysis by Stetson's own Dr. Huskey.

OK, к делу! To the business at hand... First, take the quiz!

Now, sign up for your Устное выступление your ORAL PERFORMANCE here.

On the back of the quiz, you will find two listening exercises, Давайте послушаем! Let's Listen! The first, 2-38 магазин-салон, just listen to find out the PRICES of each item, which you can scratch below the picture. The second, 2-39 Магазин <<Мода>> , just answer briefly the 3 questions. Listen carefully for the words you understand and make your judgments accordingly.

Finally, наконец, check out this great Prezi I made on the differences between two similar words, Это ("This is, that is, these are", the all-purpose introduction) and этот (the demonstrative "this" or "that" as in "this car and that cat"). At the tables, we'll work through a brief exercise that will help you to understand proper use and formation...

Finally, finally, наконец-то... go "LIKE" (поставить ЛАЙК!) the SPREES Facebook page!

If The Rock can get 500 likes, we should be able to get 2000, правда?
