Being native Russian I should notice that Maslenitsa is not just making and eating Bliny, It's a last funny holiday before keeping a fast (of course if you are an Orthodox). Pagan people burn the straw effigy that symbolizes winter. Anyway it's always a fun. there are a lot of contests performances and it's a nice show that goes mostly in parks nowdays.
